Here you can take in the 360º views over Keppel Bay, while learning all about ‘Selina.’ The 62 ton transport schooner was discovered waterlogged, dismasted and washed ashore right near this point back in 1848.

Selina had departed the Pine River (north of Brisbane) on 31 July, 1847 and was Sydney-bound with a crew and a cargo of cedar logs. Unfortunately, Selina never arrived in Sydney and was not seen again until 15 months later when her shipwreck was discovered at the now aptly named Wreck Point.

A hand-built 12 metre tall ship sculpture sits atop Constitution Hill, keeping watch over Keppel Bay. The Singing Ship is aptly named due to the musical sounds it makes as the ocean wind passes through the pipes.

The commemorative structure was created in 1970 and is made from concrete and steel. It was built to lay claim to Captain Cook’s visit to Keppel Bay in 1770.

For one of the quirkier free things to do in Yeppoon, head out on a Big Things hunt! Many travellers love to collect Aussie Big Things as they wander the country and you can find two within the Yeppoon area.

The first is the BIG Whale at Kinka Beach, which is also the location of the now abandoned Coral Life Marine Land. It’s such a shame to see this guy sitting empty and forgotten.

The second is the BIG Camel, which was a spontaneous find for us. This fella was really cool, life-like and HUGE to stand beside!

The larger nearby city of Rockhampton is well known as the ‘Beef Capital of Australia.’ To help the town live up to its name, keep your eyes peeled for the many bull statues randomly spotted around town.

Just a 30 minute ferry ride from Yeppoon itself and you’ll find yourself on a tropical island with 17 beaches, hiking, snorkelling, water sports, whale watching and beach dining.

There are two ferry services, which both leave from Rosslyn Bay in Yeppoon. Expect to pay $55 round-trip per adult and $38 round-trip per child for either ferry.
